Frederick County TRASHAbout a dozen of FC-T-CAT members organized an event for Kick Butts Day, March 26th. Students spread their message on the use of tobacco and demonstrated their commitment to the anti-tobacco campaign by offering informational pamphlets, promotional materials, and signing a pledge poster. They also performed a skit to encourage people not to smoke. Their efforts were featured in the Frederick County Maryand Daily Newspaper. Great Job! Federal Cigarette Tax IncreaseOn April 1, 2009, the federal cigarette excise tax will increase from 39 cents per pack to $1.01 per pack as part of the State Children's Health Insurance Plan (SCHIP) bill. Cigarette excise taxes in Maryland will increase to $3.00 per pack ($1.00 federal tax + Maryland's state excise tax of $2.00 per pack). |
